The depressed person feels caught with no answers or solutions. Like a rabbit snared in a trap, he sees only two options: waiting for the hunter to come nab him, or chewing off his own leg and escaping into life maimed. The hopelessness of the choices causes intense depression, immobilization, distorted reality, and a reaction of irrational panic. The key to solving depression is to identify the major losses and take positive steps to adjust or compensate.
