Q. Is it normal for an Mlcer to act as though his family are strangers to him? He only does what he is required to do.

A.   Unfortunately, this is common. MLCers think with their emotions rather than their minds so they do things that are awkward, crazy and confusing. Because they are acting almost exclusively emotionally, they make their most important relationships very awkward. Add guilt to the equation and he avoids anyone who reminds him he is doing wrong.
